Useful and Decorative
Posted on by admin
It was a pleasure to be out and about early yesterday morning at Needham Market boot sale - a beautiful clear sunny morning. More people selling than recently but still not back to pre-covid numbers. I found a few useful bits.
There's been a van there several times selling on behalf of The Elizabeth Hospice, things that they've not had room for in the shops due to them all being shut for so long. This week they had crockery, kitchen bits and jewellery.
There was a whole pile of Johnson Brothers Summer Chintz which is what I use all the time but I knew I didn't need anything except dishes and luckily 3 were un-chipped and bought for £1.
The Really Useful Lock and Lock boxes (£1) and the two gorgeous plates in the Villeroy & Boch Les Quatre Saisons series also £1 came from the same place...... So I count that as a £3 donation to the hospice!
The box of Duplo always comes out whenever the youngest Grandchildren are here so I added 3 more bits for 50p mustn't buy any more now as the box is full and there's only one more grandchild on the way.
Things That Go is a box of 15 x 2 piece puzzles and a really good find as it was new and un-played with and only £1 - ideal for youngest Grandson who loves his cars and tractors.
And finally a humourous book by Hunter Davies - The Joy of Stamps, this was also 50p. I've read his books of long distance walks and about his childhood in the past and, as a lapsed stamp collector, this looked interesting.
Buying the lovely plates (and btw these sell for around £20 each on ebay!) has nudged me to get the box of mantel shelf seasonal decorations out of the garage. I no longer have a fire or mantel-piece but there is the top of the bookcase or maybe the window-sill and I used to enjoy displaying a few treasures as the seasons change.
Day 12 in Tokyo and Spider-man is NOT science fiction! The Sports Climbing is a new event and the speed at which they get up the wall defies gravity. Then a 13 year old won a Bronze for GB in the skateboarding. Can you imagine going to the Olympics when you were 13? Earlier there had been another Gold in the women's sailing putting GB at the top of the Regatta medal table
So sad to see Katherine Johnson Thompson pull up with an injury in the 200m part of the Heptathlon and then I had to hide behind the Radio Times to see if Ben Maher would have a fast + clear round in the Showjumping final, he did and held onto the lead to win a Gold - Brilliant. That Gold medal moved GB up to 4th in the medal table and a total of 48 medals. Not sure they will hold onto that place as there are very few hopes of medals in the athletics because of the injuries. But still pretty good to be up there for a while just behind China, Japan and the USA. All "slightly" bigger than our little ol' country.
