Ingredients for Hamburger Soup

Hamburger Soup Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 stalk celery, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 5 cups beef broth
  • 15 ounce can diced tomatoes, with juice
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 cups of frozen mixed vegetables (corn, green bean, carrot mix)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

INGREDIENT NOTES

  • I use frozen veggies for this soup, but you could also use fresh if you prefer. I do love how quick and easy the frozen vegetables are! 😉
  • I love sweet onions in this recipe, but you could also use white or yellow.
  • Russet potatoes are a great option for this recipe because they are nice and starchy. You could also use red potatoes.
  • You can use low-sodium broth if you would like to.
  • I’ve also heard tips to substitute half beef broth and half chicken broth for a different flavor. I haven’t tried that, let me know if you do.
  • You’ll definitely want to drain the excess grease off the hamburger after cooking. You can make this step easier by using lean ground beef!
  • Some folks like adding cream of mushroom soup to this recipe to make the broth creamy.

RECIPE ADDITIONS

This yummy soup is so versatile!

You could use ground turkey if you’d prefer.

You could make it with rice, barley or with pasta like elbow macaroni or egg noodles.

You could add mushrooms, cabbage, zucchini, squash, peppers, or beans. You could also add in onion soup mix.

You could also serve with shredded cheese on top as well.

Add half a teaspoon of yellow mustard for an extra flavor!
